Individual Psychology Sessions

In addition to couples therapy, psychologists at The Couples Clinic also provide clinical counselling services for individuals.
Therapeutic interventions delivered by our experienced psychologists are provided under the following frameworks, or by an integration of the following techniques:  Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Biofeedback, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy (ST), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Mindfulness, Solution-Focused interventions and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT).
Common individual therapy presentations we support are:
– Stress, strain and burnout (work / parental / partner-related)
– Anxiety disorders
– Coaching / assessment support for Neurodivergent parents &/or  adults
– Self-esteem or body image issues
– Grief and loss
– Parenting support for new mums, dads and step-parents
– Anger / flooding management for adults
– Sex, desire and intimacy counselling for individuals
– Guidance for partners dealing with infidelity, betrayal or breaches of trust in an intimate relationship
– Partners requiring emotional support post-separation or upon spousal abandonment.
– Coming of age issues / adjusting to life transitions
– Navigating and communicating personal boundaries and needs in all relationship presentations
– Behavioural issues / problems affecting personal, social, relational experiences
Many individuals engage The Couples Clinic as a means of improving their personal insights, coping responses, overall wellbeing, and for the correction of maladaptive or unhelpful behaviours and communication patterns. Individual counselling provides a safe space to open up and talk to an objective, unbiased and non-judgemental human. Therapy offers both a positive personal and relational benefit for individuals who are motivated to work on themselves and continue to evolve and grow across the lifespan.
If simultaneously seeking couples therapy…
Please note that if you are seeing a practitioner individually, you will need to engage an alternate practitioner (either at The Couples Clinic or elsewhere) should you wish to transition to marital or relationship therapy. This ensures that your partner experiences an objective and unbiased therapeutic experience. Also, it would allow you to continue to see your practitioner individually either concurrently, or at a later date, if you so wish.
We are an adults only provider…
We only work with adults (minimum 18yrs) at The Couples Clinic and we provide online psychological services only. You are able to receive rebates if you are covered for psychology consultations under your private health fund. You may also be eligible for a Medicare rebate for individual sessions, if you ensure The Couples Clinic have received your current GP Mental Health Care Plan prior to your consultation/s.
