He consults online on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Brett can offer additional availability for couples seeking immersive therapy options.
Brett Somers is a registered Psychologist with over 15 years of experience in clinical counselling and couples therapy. As well as his status as a registered Psychologist, Brett has completed his full Certification in Gottman Marital and Relationship Therapy. There are presently fewer than 30 fully Certified Gottman Therapists Australia-wide.
He has also undertaken all levels of practitioner training in Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), and is currently completing his EFCT Certification.
Gottman Therapy and Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy are the leading approaches in the treatment of couples. Brett is AHPRA registered and a Member of the Australian Association of Psychologists.
In the treatment of couples, Brett’s therapeutic approach is to support couples to have corrective experiences with each other. He is energised by couples having a reparative bonding experience through his therapeutic support and guidance.
He helps couples to navigate issues that perpetually cause conflict, and dialogue with each other with respect and deep attunement. In addition to helping couples manage conflict, his style facilitates enhanced emotional connection, intimacy and friendship.
Brett also has an interest in supporting couples who have experienced trauma (trauma to the relationship and / or the individual). Specifically, he has successfully assisted many couples repair their relationship following affairs and betrayals.
In his personal time, Brett enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. He is an avid gardener and apiarist (beekeeper). He has also jumped on board with the running revolution, completing three full distance marathons since 2023. Brett loves travelling and has spent time venturing through Europe, Africa, North America, and many parts of Asia and Australia.
